“God Jobs”, 2023, oil and acrylic on canvas stretched over panel, 12 in. x 9 in.
This painting is similar to my “Lord Have Mercy” paintings of late in that I take text, in this case, the term “God Jobs”, literary paint each letter of the words, and then use those as a skeleton to then build onto, and add, and delete, and get super funky with the words, while chewing on the concept behind the phrase. In this case it was from a podcast referring to that magical one thing that comes into your life that could have only come by devine intervention (in this case the podcast host was talking about a dream job).
The colors are popping and bold to try and produce visual energy and to try and make the letters sing. Hopefully it worked. The blue arrows are a nod to that most awesome of graffiti letter traditions, the arrow……
